How I Found an Oil Rig Job that Pays a Salary of $60,000

I have long dreamed about working at the oil rig job and earning $50,000-60,000 a year, but my problem was that I found difficult to find such a job. Think yourself: offshore employers are very specific people, they almost never announce vacancies on the jobs websites. You ask me why? I have no idea, but that’s how it is.
So my problem was to find a way to reach them and make them read my resume. This turned out to be way difficult than I could imagine, but finally I succeeded in getting a high-paid oil rig job and today I work at an oil rig in Texas and I earn around $69,500 a year. But this is just a beginning, my boss promises me a promotion next year. This is much more than I ever imagined.
Oil Rig
I started my oil rig job search by contacting an employment agency ( I would avoid saying which one was it) and asked them to help me. A bad thing about employment agencies is that they ask 1-month salary, if they manage to get you to an oil rig. OMG I don’t know about you guys, but I don’t feel like paying $4000-5000 for that. That seems kind of expensive to me.
The next thing I did was browsing in the Internet and collecting e-mail addresses of offshore employers. You may think that this is a simple task, but in reality it is very time-consuming. I would say my attempts ended in total failure: in a week I managed to gather only 23 e-mail addresses.
I was very close to total disappointment, when I came across the oil rig job finder site that helped me to get to the oil rig. Their service is paid, but if you compare their fee to the fee that employment agencies charge, you will agree with me that it is very small. They provide three things that I found particularly helpful:
1. They help you prepare your resume;
2. They send your resume to 1,200 offshore employers and oil rigs;
3. They send you new vacancies everyday;
Of course this service has a disadvantage: you don’t get a guarantee that offshore employers will call you back, but come on, if you manage to send your resume to 1,200 employers, I bet at least 3-4 of them will call you and arrange an interview. But still if no one calls you, you can wait for a month and try your chances again.
In my case I got 7 calls: 5 from US employers and 2 from abroad. Today as I already said I work at an oil rig in Texas and I can say that this is what I dreamed about.
